Picking your wedding DJ is often an afterthought to many couples. It should, however, be in the forethought of planning. An experienced wedding DJ brings more to the table than just the ability to play music. The knowledge DJs have about how a wedding day should run and who needs to be doing what and when, to make it all seamless. It is YOUR day however. The DJ might offer suggestions when asked, but should not ever ‘force’ their opinion on anyone. I myself like to provide options to my couples. Some things they may be familiar with, others maybe not. The biggest thing about picking the ‘best’ DJ is making sure you mesh with them. Personality is huge. Why would you choose someone you don’t feel comfortable with? The DJ should be comfortable with you as well. Your DJ should have a good knowledge of music- and be willing to play what you want to hear (and what you don’t want to hear), after all you are hiring them. There are some circumstances where some music may be deemed inappropriate or too explicit by the DJ for the event. These types of songs need to be discussed ahead of time . The DJ should also have experience in reading a crowd- it can make or break the event. All in all, take your time in selecting your DJ. Speak to more than one as each DJ is unique. Have a friendly conversation with them. If they seem like a good fit, then hire them!
